description

There are places that are ideal for the flourishing of imagination, where the heart arrives before reason, and the eye sees without needing to look.
Here, the mind is free, letting itself drift toward uncertain horizons.
For Nicola Cappellari, some lake landscapes in the Veneto region become just such places, where time is dictated by the tide and by a constant, gravitational, slow and mysterious motion that swings between flowing and retreating, shaping both the landscape and its perception.
The book, in leporello format, embraces the tide through a folding structure that expands and contracts, almost as an invitation to accept it naturally, along with its invisible reasons, and to place oneself in harmony with the infinite universe.
The photographs reproduced in this book are scans of the original silver gelatin prints made by Nicola Cappellari, accompanied by a geography of words — a sentimental map printed in letterpress with vintage type at the Tipoteca Italiana.
